H. H. BASELIOUS MARTHOMA PAULOSE-II
Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II (Malayalam: ബസേലിയോസ് മാര്ത്തോമ്മാ പൗലോസ് ദ്വിതിയന്) (born K. I. Paul on 30 August 1946) is the 91st reigning Catholicos of the East and 21st reigning Malankara Metropolitan and as such, Supreme Head of the Indian Orthodox Church. He was enthroned Catholicos of the East &Malankara Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church on 1 November 2010 at Parumala, Kerala. He succeeded Baselios Thoma Didymos I. At the time of his election as Catholicos, Paulos had been Metropolitan Bishop of Kunnamkulam. He is also known by his traditional episcopal name, Paulos Mar Milithios.Born on 30 August 1946 in the ancient Syrian Christian family of Kollannur to K I Ipe and Kunjeetty at Mangad. His mother, Kunjeetty hails from the famous family of Pulikkottil and he was baptized at St Mary’s Orthodox Church Pazhanji. Metropolitan Paulose Mar Milithios was unanimously elected as Catholicos designate by Malankara Syrian Christian Association on 12 October 2006. He got enthroned as the Catholicos of the East for Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church on 1 November 2010 at Parumala Seminary. He is the 91st Catholicos and 21st Malankara Metropolitan in the lineage of Catholicoi and Malankara Metropolitans respectively.
His Grace Dr Mathews Mar Severios
Dr Severios was born on 12 February 1949 to Mr Cherian Anthrayos of Mattathil family, being a member of St Peters Church, Vazhoor. After his school education, he joined Kerala University and passed his BSc Chemistry. After his BSc, he joined Orthodox Seminary, Kottayam, and had his GST degree.
His Grace took his BD degree from the Serampore University and did his higher studies in Theology at Theological Academy, Leningrad, Russia. Thereupon he joined Oriental Institute, Rome, and took his MTh and PhD from there.
Dr Severios was ordained a deacon in 1976 and a priest in 1978 by HH Baselios Mathews I. He was escalated to the post of an Episcopa on 30 April 1991 at a function at Parumala, and metropolitan in 1993.
He is a well-known teacher and a faculty member of the Orthodox Seminary, Kottayam. A philanthropist, he works relentlessly for the uplift of the poor, especially women. He has started many ventures to help give employment opportunities to women from the economically backward classes.
His Grace is also heading The Servants of the Cross organisation and is the president of St Thomas Orthodox Vaidika Sangham and Malankara Orthodox Baskiyamma Association.
His Grace is the President of Asha Bhawan (Kozhimala, Thiruvalla) and Karunalayam (Aduputty, Kunnamkulam) for mentally retarded women and each houses 50 women. He is also the president of an underconstruction project–Sneha Bhawan—at Hunsur, Mysore, which will have 50 men and 50 women mentally retarded inmates.
Dr Severios is also serving the Holy Episcopal Synod as its secretary!
